Profile: Aman Takhar, RN, first gained experience in community health as a student nurse. Following the completion of her nursing education, she chose to work in home care nursing, providing care to clients in Northeast Edmonton. In her workplace, Takhar has experienced increased workload, combined with staff shortages. She discusses these trends from a community nursing perspective. Takhar had the opportunity to attend a United Nurses of Alberta (UNA) Annual General Meeting, and credits the union leadership and solidarity for ensuring that nurses’ voices are heard at levels where policy change can be made.
