Thursday July 10 10-11:30 a.m. and Saturday July 12 10-11:30 a.m.
Meet at the EPL Milner Library branch north plaza.

The tour is part of Edmonton’s Historic Festival.

This year’s downtown tour covers Edmonton’s 1919 General Strike, the Hunger March, and several sites of Labour Halls and union meeting places. The tour centres on the working conditions and lives of Edmonton workers. Some of these sites must be imagined, but others remain.

We will walk from the Milner Downtown Library to the top of Grierson Hill and return to the Library. We meet outdoors, on the north plaza of the Library.

Each tour participant will receive a copy of ALHI’s booklet Edmonton Working Class Heritage Buildings. The booklet covers many more sites of significance that participants can explore on their own.

The tour will be led by Cathy Roy, a retired museum curator and fourth generation settler in central Edmonton.

The Alberta Labour History Institute collects, preserves , and disseminates the stories of Alberta’s working people and their organizations.
