Andre came to Edmonton from The Netherlands with his parents in 1952. After receiving a Diploma in Civil Technology from NAIT, he entered the business world before going to work for the City of Edmonton, firstly as a zoning analyst and then as a development control officer. Although never holding an executive position in the Union, Andre expresses a keen appreciation of the benefits and protection the union offers its rank-and-file members. He recalls the Boyle McCauley development as one of the most significant decisions he participated in as an employee.
